Hi All,
I am very excited about this book. It is unique in that it covers all of the major skills of movement and combines written descriptions with visual images in video and pictures. The book is free of the theory that you find in many texts. It provides the nuts and bolts needed to teach these skills. There are many elementary physical education texts that provide a written description of a skill, but to be able to see this skill at the level being described will help students become more effective teachers of these skills.
Each skill begins with a short description of the skill and then is followed by the cues that would be helpful in teaching the skill. A description of each developmental level is then followed by a video of each of these skill levels. The developmental skill levels are divided by immature, developing and mature patterns of movement. Two lesson plans are provided for each skill and these match the California State Model Content Standards. A paper pencil assessment is written so that it is ready to hand to students to assess their learning. Finally, each skill has a game that involves maximum practice opportunities for students and provides reinforcement for the skill being taught. A description of each game is followed by a video of the game being played.
The video portion of this book was largely created by students and their friends and family. It is their gift to future students. It is my hope that this book will be invaluable in teaching movement skills and hopefully creating students who are lifelong lovers of and participants of physical activity.
